That’s actually true. I read an article not long ago that said that most people who are homophobic have homosexual urges. I mean, what else could explain someone being disgusted that people are have sex, with the same sex? Why would you care if people are having sex unless you’re…interested. xD

    I read the article, too. It was on PsychToday I believe. It wasn’t the first of its kind, either. While nobody should go around assuming things because of a single internet article, the important part was the point it brought up.
    
    There are plenty of those who think homosexuality is a sin, but look to gays and think “that’s their problem, not mine.” They aren’t militant.
    
    In order to actually be deeply upset by something, it needs to be personal in some way.
    
    For some, it’s fear that they will be included in some retribution against a large social downturn. Another “great flood” so to speak.
    
    For others, it’s not hard to see how there is a sense of jealousy/frustration for their own inhibited desires. There are a lot of natural attitudes that are hushed out, especially in men, because it is taught as strength to “rise above” it.
    
    The vast majority of those who are taught that homosexuality is sinful do not become militant or angry, they simply disagree.
    
    But there are very few reasons to actually put in all the effort and retain motivation to become militant. The big two are simple ignorance and repressed homosexuality.

I’ve become convinced it’s not so much the “same sex” that bothers people. It’s the “man on man.” “Woman on woman”? No problem because the man can convince himself that they’re just doing it until he gets there and can join them. But “man on man”? It’s all that “butt stuff” that scares them. They don’t even like going to the doctor after age 40 because they know the doc is gonna wanna check “up there.” So the thought that there are men who do this willingly to each other, and since he as a heterosexual man would screw any good looking woman he could get his hands on, and since he deep down inside thinks of himself as good looking, his logic tells him that all gay men want to rape him, and then, according to the book of Deuteronomy, marry him.

    I think you’re right, but the hypocrisy is that MANY straight couples are into anal play. How many Christian women claim to be virgins because a penis hasn’t been inside them, but they will easily take it up the butt. Being a sodomite, as many are quick to push, means any sexual act that isn’t penis inserted into vagina. Oral, masturbation (mutual or solo), anal…all sodomy.

      The internet is full of stories of School Girls who have taken the ‘purity pledge’ doing everything but Vaginal sex and thinking that’s acceptable. On your second point I was about to point out how incredibly wrong you were but I thought I’d check just to make sure, even though I was 100% certain, so I looked up some dictionaries. All Four major English dictionaries say Sodomy is anal sex. Nothing else. All the American dictionaries I checked however had varying descriptions. Most include all forms of sex other than Vaginal and many even include Bestiality.
      It’s about time America called its language American.

Nah, I think you can even take religion out of it. Forget the religious aspect. There are plenty of non-believers that are against homosexuality. Bill’s “theory” in kinda cute in a comedic kind of way, but it’s pretty sterotypical. “Men are dogs”, blah blah. Here’s the thing…”woman on woman” is widely more accepted, even among alot of women, because they’re thought of as the more emotional, sensual creatures. There’s more emotion involved, typically. With “man on man”, it’s more about stickin’ it in there…ANYWHERE, and getting off. “Uh uh uh”, so to speak. Then there’s the biological aspect. Obviously, it takes a man and a woman to create life. It’s impossible any other way. Nothing to do with religion. Therefor, one could argue that it’s the “correct” way.

I dispute the assertion that plenty of non-believers are against homosexuality. Almost all the voting for anti-gay legislation comes from the religious. Polling shows very few non-believers that support anti-gay positions. Further, the anti-gay attitude that has been around for millenia of Judeo-Christian religions would have ruined the experiment since all non-believers are raised in a culture dominated by Judeo-Christian values.

It was, however, a very fine attempt to defend religion against the very accurate charge that it is the prime source of anti-gay sentiment.

Well, obviously, religious fanatics are the prime sourse of anti-gay ANYTHING. My “assertion” that plenty of non-believers are against homosexuality isn’t just my opinionated thought, but from knowing several atheists who think it’s not right for one reason or another. In fact, an atheist aquaintance of mine has gone as far as to say homosexuality is a mental condition, and not a “normal” way of thinking. He bases his opinion on the fact that a large majority of gay people have had some type of abuse, either physical or mental, in their lives. Personally, I don’t put much credence into what religious people think is an “abomination under God” for the simple reason that these people, especially Christians, are worse than most as far as adultery and self gratification. I don’t defend religion. I do, however, believe that it’s the easiest “stance’ to attack for gay supporters because they’re too easy to dispute.

Many people believe that homosexuality is a mental condition.
I’m bisexual. I’ve never been abused. I never sniffed lead paint. I’ve never hit my head hard enough to damage my mental capacity.
The only mental condition I have that’s not “normal” is my Asperger’s Syndrome.
I know several people who are Trans, they also have never suffered abuse.
I have several good friends who are gay, never abused.
I have a friend who is pan. NEVER abused.
I’ve met a LOT of gay/bi/pan/trans/asexual people and not one of them has any sign of mental disorder.
I must ask though, when do straight people wake up and say: “I’m into opposite gender” Who’s to say that’s normal?

I don’t really care a lot about who hates gay marriage, religion or not. However, generally, Athiests can say ‘This is just my opinion’, while Religion tends to have the ‘Word of God’ behind it in hating gays. That’s a lot more than just “feelings” toward things.

Well, Deuteronomy is a part of the Old Testament, which all of the old Testament is merely history to show us how life was before Jesus. After Jesus came and died on the cross, all of the traditions and requirements of the Old Testament no longer apply…much like sacrificing animals (to God) is no longer a practice because Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice.

Also Kind Solomon had 700 wives but that was not at all condoned by God, in any way. He was living in sin and knew it. But God uses sinners (of all kinds) to show, that even though we cannot be perfect (that why we need Jesus) that God can use us in his plans, even when we mess up.

what facts? your opinion about some old stories? it may be a fact that this is your opinion, but usually the factts about one’s opinion are labelled opinions. Things written in the bible are not facts. Facts are mundane things, if it’s about something that matters it’s probably less a fact and more an interpretation of others’ opinions, or an opinion in itself. Therories are useful, until a better one comes along. Facts are like numbers, they don’t mean much by themselves, i.e. it’s a fact that I think I exist. 9+2=11 but that doesn’t mean anything in and of itself. et cetera is latin, so what?

I see marriage as historic relict and invention of religion. There is no real point on that, you can be happy with partner even when not married.

But, I think that homosexuality is against nature. Evolution does not count with sex without offspring. It still is a deviation, even if those people can do nothing with it. Well, I am not saying that homosexuals should not have the same rights, but I wouldn’t fight on their side.

greece, japan, various shamanistic practices; there are stories all over antiquity of homosexual behaviour being accepted as simply part of life. if anything contributes to the homophobia in our modern western culture above all else, it is religion (followed closely by the “ick factor”, which is no reason at all to deny someone their human rights).

i do agree that marriage is pointless anyway tho. instead of gay marriage, i’d be fighting for NO marriage; civil unions for all!

Just because someone manages to reproduce doesn’t mean they’re “successful’ evolutionary wise. The offspring still need to survive.

Unlike eyeglasses, bandaids, singles bars, condoms, television, football, antibiotics, and everything else that makes up our modern lives and doesn’t bother you, apparently because it grows on trees or something. And actually there are many examples of homosexuality in nature. Male giraffes prefer sex with other males for pleasure. The only time they have sex with a female is if shes ovulating. In which case you could argue that the only reason to have “straight sex” is to continue our population. And since we dont need sex for that any more, no one should be having anything but homosexual sex?

Think before you write, dude. If you want to argue nature, at least know what your talking about.

I’m bisexual with a slightly stronger preference towards women. It’s completely natural. I grew up on organic foods, and I was never abused as a child. I never woke up in the morning and said to myself “I think I’m gonna be into men and women today”. I’ve been bisexual since I was in first grade, granted that at that point in time I didn’t realize it was a sexual attraction but it was still there, it was there before that even.

I’m not gonna lie, up until.. Umm.. Let’s say three or four years ago i was more or less an homofobe. I didn’t know why and, to be honest, i didn’t care why either. It wasn’t until i watched the news and saw this article about how a homosexual man had been attacked by a group of skinheads and almost beaten to death i started to think. Now i was shocked by this because they showed pictures of the family crying and had interviews with the mans lover and everything and i just sat up, took a long god damn thought about it and then said out loud “This, this is wrong.”

To jugde people on who they want to be with, who they love and want to spend the rest of their life with.. It’s just wrong.

Since that day i have NEVER once jugded someone by if they are straight or gay and believe me when i say this: If i could go back in time i would go back to when i was a homofobe and smack myself in the back of the head because, by the gods of the internets!, was i stupid!

FYI, here’s a little primer on socialism, not that I believe you will care. You’re too far gone into the brainwashing to allow any truth into your head.

The truth is, the most socialist countries in the world right now are places like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and perhaps Canada. All have democratically-elected governments, a happier population, better-educated citizens, a better standard of living, and better health care than the USA. For that matter, most of what you like about the USA was damned as “socialist” when liberals first proposed it.

Tell us, which of these are you willing to give up because they’re “socialist”? Free paved roads, free public schools, police and fire protection, free public parks, clean and safe water food, and medicines, regulated workplace safety, mandated overtime pay, social security, medicare, child labor laws, and anything else where everyone contributes to for the benefit of all? An example would be sports stadiums. They are often partially paid for by tax money even though only about 15% of any nearby population will ever enter them even though 100% help pay for them. Socialist!

Again, which of these will you gladly give up?

This is classical “reaction formation” from Freudian psychoanalysis. The people most threatened by homosexuality are the ones who are reacting to what they hate most in themselves.

For the rest of us who are not gay, we might be appalled when we are hit on by someone of the same sex, otherwise it just doesn’t matter. This is why I support gay rights – I am comfortable in my heterosexuality and don’t view gay people as threats to me or mine. People are people. Who they sleep with is not my business if the act is between consenting adults.

That’s rather simplistic. Some people simply have religious convictions that have nothing to do with regarding others as “icky.” It’s more about what they believe marriage is and is not than about any opinion on people.

If a person subscribes to a religious conviction then they invariably will build there views around aspects of that religion. It becomes the bias with which choices and feelings can be rationalized, or by which complex problems can be ignored by simplifying them with a religiously based context.

The point of this comic is to illustrate that If someone believes that the bible tells them that marriage is one way and fails to recognize that the bible seems to have many and conflicting versions of marriage, many no longer accepted by simply ignoring them (hence the 700 wives, or the contractual rape clause), then either they are picking and choosing which version to use based on what ever suits them and no real divine law, or they are hiding some other prejudice behind the easy-out solution of “religion just says.”

Actually, same sex marriage, no problem, but a man sticking his dick into another mans ass, that is a problem. Our bodies where designed in a specific way. If men was meant to be with men, nature would have built us that way. You can truly LOVE whoever and whatever you want, but technically and naturally, on a reproductive level, man + man or woman + woman is not suppose to happen. We have adoption for that though.
