Just out of curiosity, how many of you in the bible belt know christians that think legalizing pot will be one of the worse things ever, but chains smokes or drinks immensely or constantly on some prescription drug that they shouldn’t be on any more?

  Religion has caused death in the millions, possibly billions through persecution and wars. The long term effect of marijuana are highly contested, and there is no consensus that they actually cause any long-term damage.

  I have never smoked marijuana, nor am I a scientist, nor will I link/quote the research of one. I personally don’t care whether or not marijuana causes schizophrenia or heart attacks, that isn’t enough to make it illegal.
  Operating under the assumption that marijuana causes these things (which I am not saying it does), it harms the person who smokes it, and no one else. Excessive intake of fast food or sweets cause heart problems, obesity, and tooth decay, but we don’t outlaw any of these things. If something is a health concern, you’re free to make the stupid decision to do it. Laws shouldn’t be based on “well, this might be unhealthy to do.” If they did, we wouldn’t have a single fast food restaurant in America.
  Laws should be based off of one question only, and it isn’t how unhealthy something is to do: “Does allowing people to do this in any way hurt someone else or take away their rights?” If the answer is yes, then make it illegal, but if not, then mind your own business and let everyone else make their own health decisions.

    It is easy to find. It was also easy to discover that the list of links you gave are far from peer reviewed science. A couple of those articals are well over a decade old as well.
    
    Fact : Smoking ANYTHING is going to be bad for your heart. That’s simple enought. Marijuana can be taken by vaporization or by eating it….both of which are of no harm to the heart.
    
    Fact : There is NO LINK whatsoever between schizophrenia and the use of marijuana. That’s just idiotic.

Egan Penney, how the hell does self harm hurt others? Do you know what SELF means? If someone wants to smoke pot and harms themselves, what is it to you? It wouldn’t be called SELF-HARM if more than just yourSELF was being harmed….duh.
