My favorite Fight Club and atheism meme.

I was hanging out one afternoon, and thought of all the idiotic things theists have said to me in the past. And then I was thinking about all the hurtful and stupid things that theists must have said to all of you. And then I was thinking about the new movie adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing, which was directed by Joss Whedon (atheist and super nerd).

But I digress.

So, I decided to write a list of the worst things you can say to an atheist. I went on my various social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and Google+) and asked the godless what they thought.

Here are some of their replies. The atheist who contributed is given full credit  next to the quote.

I may just add a snarky line or two under the quote if the insult  rubs my nipples the wrong way.

There are times  I am gobsmacked by another’s lack of understanding and willingness to share that misunderstanding with the world. This would’ve been one of those times. So many things wrong. So many things wrong on so many different levels. How can one person stuff so much wrong in two sentences?

I’ve had conversations with otherwise rational people who seem to know what the afterlife’s policies and daily schedule will be. For example, I was hanging out with a few people, and I mentioned that I’m an organ donor. Once I’m dead everything that can be used should be used, if it’s going to help another person. A woman looked at me straight in the eyes and said, “I’m not doing that. I’m going to need them.”

Really?

This gets under a lot of atheists’ skins — especially those of us who escaped fundamentalism.  I cried uncontrollably (my parents had to be called in) when the crucifixion was explained to me when I was 7 years old in Sunday School. When I was 13 and at Jesus Snow Camp I decided to give up masturbation for Gentle Jesus. (That decision didn’t last too long. However, I did refrain from doing “it” on Sundays for quite a while as a matter of respect.) My mother was the church organist and my dad a deacon. I believed. A lot.

I got a message from them voicing their concerns, and while I don’t normally delete comics that are my own, I felt that since this was done to promote an organization that I believe in, it was in the best interest to remove the comic to avoid any more grief.

I know I can’t erase it totally from the web, but I’ll make up something more generic to promote the SSA.

The Muslim Movement for Understanding Diversity (MMUD) has joined forces with Christians Against Statistics (CAS) in combating the ever growing menace of  Ornithorhynchus anatinus, otherwise known as the platypus. As reported earlier, biblical scholars had found overwhelming evidence that the web footed crawling beast was the original tempter of Eve and not the serpent.  Academic scholars based in the online Muslim Movement for Understanding  Diversity University  (MMUD  U) have joined their monotheistic-Trinitarian-polythiestic Christian researchers in decrying the monstrous evils of all platypuses.

“While the Holy Qur’an states that Satan and not a serpent brings about the expulsion of humanity from the Garden of Eden,” stated Adnan Oxtar, lead researcher at MMUD  U,” there are accounts of talking animals. In one of the lesser known sayings of Mohammed, he stated, “While the gazelle and reptile spoke truly, this beaver tailed abomination is an abomination, and states that she requires verifiable evidence to believe in Allah.”

Not as cute as the platypus, but just as deadly.

The two organizations recently met in Sydney, Australia to discuss how to manage the skeptical platypus and its pernicious effect on society. Seminars ranged from how to counter the expected migration of the animal out of Australia, into Asia and beyond, to how the faith-based communities should respond to the secular-fascist creature. The conference ended with a discussion on the suspected alliance between the platypus and its close relative, the echidna.  The two animals are the world’s last monotremes (mammals who lay eggs), and such a pact between the beasts could lead to untold horrors.  The last few minutes were dedicated to how the unholy alliance may adopt the tactics of Joseph Stalin, another famous atheist, and erect gulags for non-monotremes.

Afterwards, the  major representatives from MMUD and CAS spoke to the press. The organizers trumpeted the meeting as a success.

“We have spent centuries fighting each other. At last we are united against the evils of secularism and unnatural egg laying mammals,” stated Andrew Kannard, spokesperson for CAS.

“Don’t forget we both hate gays, women, and evolution!” Adnan Oxtar piped in.

“That’s just a given,” M. Kannard replied.

Meanwhile platypuses everywhere are figuring out how to disguise their young to escape  persecution.
